Entry Level Certificate in Skills for Working Life

Why
Study History? Most
jobs require you to work with and understand people, handle
information, solve problems and make decisions. History can help
teach you some of these skills. History is about PEOPLE - not just leaders
like Mandela or Kennedy - but ordinary people too! When you leave school
and start work you'll need to be able to co-operate with people. Studying History will give you the opportunity to discover why people behave as they do. If you want to find out what happened in the past you need to examine the available evidence - but that isn't always easy.
The ability to deal confidently with written information and to use it accurately to make decisions is a very important skill - one that will impress employers. You will learn to research topics and to present information on them in different written, oral & visual styles Course
Structure The
course looks at a number of countries that have, in their different ways,
made a major impact on 20th Century History. They include USA, the USSR
and Vietnam. Also, we study the Civil Rights Movements in the USA, South
Africa, Britain and Northern Ireland. Assessment The
course has 2 examinations on world
history (75%) and 2 coursework assignments on British history
(25%).
