Subject overview
As a department we firmly believe that every pupil has the ability to achieve success in mathematics. Consequently we believe that maths should be accessible, stimulating and challenging for students of all abilities.
As a team we strive to achieve this by collaborative working and constant reflecting on our own practice. The maths department comprises a group of maths specialists, many of whom have experience in areas related to Maths.
Each year pupils have the opportunity to take part in
the UK National Maths Challenges. We have had winners at
all levels including students who went on to participate
in international challenges.

The Key Stage 3 maths course is based on the KS3 National Strategy; covering number; algebra; shape, space and measures and handling data as well as lessons on problem solving and ICT. Our schemes of work have been continuously developed over the last 7 years, incorporating new initiatives from the DCFS as soon as they are available.

Years 10 and 11 are following the OCR Syllabus,
Mathematics C Graduated assessment We use Schemes of Work developed within the Department
which are updated on a yearly basis in line with current
curriculum developments. |
We follow the Edexcel course for A/AS level Maths and OCR (MEI) for Further Maths at AS and A-level. Students are normally entered for the AS level after
the first year. Further Maths, which is a complete
A level in itself can only be taken by those who are
also taking A level Maths. |
