Subject overview
The small media department prides itself in guiding students to be able to understand and analyse a variety of media forms – television, film, pop music and print. This successful subject provides opportunities for quality learning experiences from BBC 21CC, YCTV, Film and Video Workshop, The Guardian Newsroom and Cineclub.
This year students took part again in BBC Schools News Report at South Camden City Learning Centre and the BBC itself; a link to their report in on the website.

At Key stage four students follow the AQA Media Studies course, producing three coursework folder pieces in Year 10, Children’s’ TV, Film and Pop Music, and a practical life style magazine study in Year 11. Students sit a three hour examination at the end of the course which assesses their research skills, knowledge of the media and creativity. This year the topic is Situation Comedy. |
At Key stage five we follow the OCR Media studies specification. At AS the topics are New Media Technology, Action Adventure films, Situation Comedy and Charity Advertising production. At A2 this is extended to include critical research studies into Women and Film, Sport and the Media and Children and the Media, in addition to Local Newspapers, British Contemporary film and Horror film production. |
In September 2008 we will be introducing the new OCR specification which covers production work in Pop Music Magazines, an analysis of Television Drama and a study of the film industry.
In addition, students will use blogs to record the progress of their production work with multimedia references embedded into their work for assessment by the examination board.
