Latest News » Year 12 in Debate Challenge - 5th December 2007

Against tough opposition from schools across the borough, a team of students from Hampstead School debated their way to victory at the Camden Year 12 Debate Challenge, held at the Royal Veterinary College on Wednesday 5 December, holding off rivals La Swap and Camden School in the process to emerge with the spoils.

The Hampstead trio (Simeon, Jeffrey and Harry with Agon as Chair) took their seats to present their belief that people should only buy and eat locally grown food. A heated argument ensued, with the other team proceeding to test the Hampstead team to their debating limits. However, the Hampstead three more than held their own, with each member giving an assured speech with a confidence that had came about through hours of preparation. The judges announced that Hampstead were the overall winners; praising them on their 'excellent public speaking skills and good use of examples and statistics to back up their proposal.'

Currently the reigning Model United Nations debating champions at Edinburgh and Belfast as well, the school hopes to continue to go from strength to strength in the world of debating.
