The DT Department produced a large number of bags and cushions for sale at the International Evening. These were made by EAL pupils with the help of a DT teacher and EMA member of staff. The art team involved pupils in the Safe Space project, too. Students produced boxes and decorated them with various designs. A box was to symbolise safety and contained space where individuals store their life experiences.
The Drama Department helped to rehearse students’ performance on stage. The International Evening was dedicated to our Refugee pupils and their families.
The performance on the day consisted of:
- a poetry recital in many languages
- Asian dancing/ Somali dance
- A Turkish folk group (Anatolia ) was invited to perform during the event; parents and students present at the event joined the group to perform a communal dance.
- Performance by the school band
- Solo music performances
- Greetings in various languages
The students’ projects were displayed in the Hall. There was a food display and a stall with cushions and bags.
Admission to the event was free but parents and guests were asked to contribute a plate of food from their country.
