Dr Josh Zeitz of Cambridge University gave a lecture earlier this term attended by over 80 Year 10 -13 students. They listened attentively to what was essentially a 45 minute university lecture on the relationship between anti-communism and the civil rights movement. It really got students enthused and thinking about university. As a result of this, we have Professor Tony Badger (Clare College) booked for a talk in November and the possibility of a day trip for Year 10s to Cambridge where they will have mini-seminars with relevant history lecturers.
Sport
Hampstead School Year 9 boys 11 a-side football team won the Camden and Islington [under 14s] Cup. This is a monumental achievement especially as they beat St. Aloysius College, who have won the trophy three years in a row. They won the Louis Lewis Challenge Shield, contested since 1925, for the very first time. They won a pulsating match at Chase Lodge 2-1. The boys found themselves 1-0 down at half time, and were really up against it when they were reduced to 10 men. The Goalie was unfairly sent off for a handball outside the area. The boys showed tremendous character and determination to fight back and win.
Not content with that, our Year 9 boys continued their fantastic football season by becoming the Camden Schools 5-a-side champions! They travelled to Acland Burghley school and beat all the teams from Camden they played. This is a fantastic achievement by the boys and another trophy they have won for our bulging cabinet. The boys played tremendously as a team and represented the school superbly and did themselves proud. They finished top of the league table, progressed to the final and won the final 3-0.
