PERFORMING ARTS

Drama and Theatre Studies A Level:

This course gives students the opportunity to engage with a range of plays, practitioners and theatre styles. We are very proud of our alumni, who have left to go on and study at some of the country’s top universities and drama schools including: LAMDA, East 15, The University of Leeds and The University of Exeter to name but a few.

Music A Level :

Music A Level gives students the opportunity to develop their performing, composing and listening skills in a range of styles and these are covered again through a series of 'Areas of Study' which include: Instrumental, vocal, applied music for film and TV. The course also includes areas of traditional compositional techniques.

Extra-Curricular

We offer a broad range of extra-curricular activities, which aim to develop the student’s performance skills and give them experience in professional contexts.

Drama

The Drama department have a number of links with London based theatres, theatre companies and Drama Schools, such as The Royal, Central School of Speech and Drama, The Tricycle theatre and Theatre de Complicite. We invite professionals into school and we are also sometimes lucky enough to take part in projects within a professional theatre setting. An example of a project we have run in the past was when the Year 12 and 13 students took part in a project with the Domar Warehouse where they devised an original piece of theatre which was then performed at the theatre itself. In addition to this students are given the chance to take part in the annual the school production, where they can take on an acting, costume, set design or marketing role.

Music

We are delighted offer instrumental lessons on a wide range of instruments including DJ and music technology. Students can also join our successful Jazz Band, which performed at the famous Ronnie Scott’s club last year. Students in the Sixth Form also have the opportunity to take part  in the school orchestra, the vocal group ‘Closed Harmony’, senior choir or the music departments ‘Rock School’.

Dance

We encourage students with an interest in dance to our popular dance company, which takes part in a range of competitions across London. Sixth Form students also have the opportunity to be a Dance Mentor in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 lessons. This gives students the invaluable experience of being able to lead parts of the lessons and provide younger students with one to one support.

Physical Education

Sixth Form students are invited to assume the role of assistant coaches in P.E lessons and clubs -  invaluable experience for anyone interested in following a career within the sports profession. The P.E department also runs a basketball leisure club for Year 12 and Year 13 students.
