Year 9
Welcome to the Year 9.
We hope that you will find the information informative and useful.
In Year 9 students face the exciting challenge of another milestone in their lives at Hampstead School. Year 9s will be looking at Pathways and Progression towards their KS4 GCSE’s, Diploma’s and BTEC courses. Over the coming weeks students will be talking with their tutors about the subjects which make up these pathways. Students will also be supported through a series of presentations, group discussions and interviews.
We recognise the importance of the decisions that students need to make in their transition from Year 9 into Key Stage 4. In this important and challenging phase of students’ education, it is crucial that we give clear and informed guidance as to the pathways available and how these are matched to individual needs, interests and abilities.
Members of staff will be working with students to make sure that they think carefully about choices, as well as the way that they approach their Key Stage 4 learning. We expect each of them to fulfil their learning potential on courses that engage them and allow them to develop a wide range of knowledge and skills. Qualifications gained at the end of Key Stage 4 are an essential springboard for students' development as they play a large part in shaping future educational and career opportunities.
Parents and carers are encouraged to take an active part in this important process
Do:
- research unfamiliar subjects
- devote time to discuss with your daughter/son their aspirations and goals
- consider the commitment needed by you both for successful outcomes
Don’t:
- make decisions based on the friendship group of your daughter/son
- Panic. Staff at school are here to guide you through this process
Although your daughter/son may have an idea of what career path they might like to follow in the future, it is OK if they have not yet decided. At this stage it is far more important to get the ‘best fit’ of pathway for each individual. This will maximise the qualification potential for each student and put them on the right course for successful progression to further study.
