Welcome to Year 8
At Hampstead School we believe that the tutor has an important role in working with students and parents to ensure maximum achievement in learning and development.
Year 8 are taught in various groups and are set in English, Maths and Science. All Year 8 classes have some additional support in the classroom, and some students may be withdrawn for individual literacy support or help with language.
All subject teachers set home learning on a regular basis. The home learning timetable is available for printing from the website. It is extremely important that the students become independent learners and to this end, we have introduced ILAWs - Independent Learning Assessment Windows. Throughout the year students will be asked to complete an ILAW; this information can be found in your child’s student planner. The ILAW is set by the subject teacher and is an extended piece of home learning that your child must complete in addition to the day to day home learning for individual subjects.
Student planners support students in their personal organisation and are an important tool of communication between parents and school. As well as the student’s individual timetable the planner contains information about achievement levels, key information to support lessons, space to record homework, as well as space for school-home messages and notes. Parents are asked to sign the planners regularly and to help students to use their planner efficiently.
We have high expectations and are committed to developing every student’s full potential. Each student is individual and we believe that they should take responsibility for their learning, with support from a dedicated staff that will challenge and create a learning experience in a caring and secure environment.
We insist on a RESPECT culture within the school. Students are encouraged to respect each other, staff, the environment and community. At Hampstead School we encourage positive behaviour and are committed to ensuring that your child becomes a responsible learner through this. We want to support them to become effective learners, maximising their achievement, attaining high standards and laying the foundations for future success.
Our aim for Year 8 is for young people to become committed to their learning and to their development, taking responsibility, to improve and reach their full potential and to treat everyone with respect inside and outside of our school.
We must all work in partnership with each other and the local community, to develop a mutual trust and respect, preparing students to take their place in society as responsible, caring and well informed citizens.
