Hampstead School Newsletter

As we continue to focus on providing a well-rounded educational experience for our students, I am pleased to inform you about the range of enrichment and extra-curricular clubs available at our school this year. These programs are designed to complement the academic curriculum by fostering creativity, leadership, teamwork, and personal growth in a variety of settings.

We encourage all students to take advantage of these enriching experiences, which not only support academic success but also foster a sense of belonging, build resilience, and enhance key life skills.

Information about the timetable, registration process, and club leaders can be found on the school's website and notice boards. Most clubs meet once a week, either during lunch breaks or after school, and participation is free of charge.

Should you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing your child’s enthusiasm and growth as they explore their passions and develop new skills through our enrichment and extra-curricular offerings.

Thank you for your continued support.

Enrichment Showcase: They Are Blood in the Snow by the First Story Group

On Tuesday 24th September, we celebrated the launch of the First Story group's publication, 'They Are Blood in the Snow'. The students performed their poems to an audience of friends and family, followed by a certificate presentation from our poet-in-residence Xanthe Barker.

Atlas (Year 10) was also selected to attend (after a competitive application process) the First Story week-long residential this summer in Yorkshire.

'Something that struck me particularly about this group was their willingness to make space for each other – to create and participate in a truly inclusive space that could be nurturing to all, regardless of their background or identity.' - Xanthe Barker

Leadership and Volunteering Opportunities
Our extra-curricular offerings also focus on personal development and community involvement.

Senior Police Cadets The Police Cadets in the UK is a voluntary program for young people, typically aged 13 to 18, designed to promote good citizenship, personal development, and an understanding of policing. Run by Camden staff, the program offers cadets the opportunity to participate in community events, support local policing initiatives, and learn about the work of the police through hands-on activities and training. Cadets also develop key life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and communication, while building positive relationships between young people and the police. Although the program is not a direct recruitment route, it provides valuable experience for those interested in a future career in law enforcement or community service. Students in Year 9 and above can sign up with Ms Brown or Mr Hitchman. Sessions run on a Thursday evening from 5pm to 7pm.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award All students in Years 9 and 10 can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze and Silver awards.  The DofE award is a well-regarded program which involves completing a series of activities across four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and an Expedition. Each section is personally designed by the students to challenge and encourage them to step out of their comfort zones to develop essential life skills.

Benefits of Participating in the DofE Award:
1. Personal Development: The program promotes self-discipline, commitment, and perseverance. By setting and achieving personal goals, students gain confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
2. Skill Building: Participants can explore new interests or improve existing skills, from sports and arts to academic pursuits. This diverse skill set is invaluable for personal growth and future career opportunities.
3. Community Engagement: Through the volunteering section, students contribute to their communities, developing empathy, social responsibility, and teamwork skills.
4. Physical Fitness: The Physical section encourages a healthy and active lifestyle, improving physical well-being and mental health.
5. College and Career Advantages: The D of E Award is highly respected by colleges, universities, and employers worldwide. It demonstrates a student’s commitment, initiative, and ability to balance multiple responsibilities.
