Hampstead School Newsletter

So here we are already! We're entering the final term of the academic year after the Easter vacation. We return to a short half-term with 23 school days and 2 long weekends. It’s a time of lighter moods and brighter weather for many – longer, warmer days to enjoy!

For others though, it can also be a time of anxiety and stress, as students work intensively and spend long hours revising for the summer national examination season.

Year 11 and 13 students, in particular, will be focused on their exams while reflecting on their time at Hampstead School and planning their next steps and destinations. Let us all remember the pressures this time brings and be mindful of offering encouragement and support.

This is just the beginning; after half-term, the exams and pressures continue. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Just like the crowds cheering the London Marathon runners this coming weekend, our school community can support our fellow students running their own marathons this summer.

As students strive to reach their academic goals and personal bests, they have also spent many, many hours training, just like the participants of the London Marathon, to reach that finishing line.

Good luck to all our runners this term – we are all right there with you!!!!!

Assistant Head and Science Teacher

BBC Breakfast talk Adolescence

Hampstead School were invited by BBC Breakfast to take part in filming a discussion between Jack Thorne, writer of the Netflix programme Adolescence, and our students.

On 2nd April, the Sixth Form centre was turned into a make-shift studio with Jayne McCubbin (reporter/interviewer) leading a frank and challenging discussion around the issues raised in the programme.  Our student representatives from Y10-Y13 were shown clips of Adolescence and spoke with Jack Thorne about their views on this difficult topic.

After filming, with autographs, media careers advice and selfies taken, Mr Thorne and the BBC production team complimented our students as amazing and a real credit to our community.

Sixth Form

Year 13 students have their final Level 3 examinations fast approaching, and we are aware that this is a stressful period for them. In order to support them we are running a parent webinar on Supporting Students through Exams on Thursday, 1st May at 4.30pm - 5.15pm. This will be run by Mr Lowery and Ms Villegas, informing parents/carers of strategies that can be used over the coming months in supporting their children through this stressful exam series.

We are aware that we cannot take the stress of exams away from students at this point of time, but want to work with parents in supporting stress levels to ensure that students can achieve highly in their upcoming exams and open the next door on their educational and employment journeys.

The link has been directly emailed to Parents/Carers by Mr Lowery.
