Hampstead School Newsletter

Schools are busy places and the academic year rolls by with remarkable speed. As I write there is torrential rain over school, following some extremely hot weather over half term.

I hope you and your families had an excellent break and stayed safe.

It seems remarkable that we are coming to the end of the public examination window which will mark the end of the academic year for our Year 11 and Year 13 students. I'd like to take this opportunity to praise them for their resilience and wish them well in their onwards steps. I hope they always carry a little bit of us with them, but of course we'll see most of the Year 11s again in September when they joins us as Year 12s.

Our Sixth Form is open to our students, and those from other schools, so if you know anyone who may be looking to join a thriving Sixth Form that has been achieving excellent results,  do encourage them to get in touch with us. We're always happy to show people around. There'll also be a brand new cafe in place for Sixth Form students by September (I suspect some staff will enjoy using this too...) as we continue to invest in this important part of our school.

By the time you read this I hope the rains have abated and you and your families enjoy a fantastic final term and summer period.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you need us at all.

- Rob Hague, Deputy Head

Nagwa said’ it was really clever the way every time she saw the ghost of her mother appear a lightbulb would lower from the ceiling and glow into the audience that her mother was back’

And the production of MASS at the Donmar seen Tuesday May 12th 2026. Set in America.

Two Couples meet to have a conversation no parent should have to face as they come to face.

Aoife said ‘ the use of the revolve stage symbolised that the parents were going round in circles and each time the stage changed, we could see a different perspective from the different set of parents’

Last week Ms Rodger did an assembly on the importance of Creativity for our studies and in our lives. Creativity doesn’t just come from talent—it grows from experiences. The more you see, hear, and do, the more ideas you have to draw from.

Living in London gives you a huge advantage because the city is full of opportunities to explore—many of them completely free. When you step outside of your usual routine, your brain is forced to adapt, observe, and think differently.

Here are some places you could visit:

Kings Cross. A short train ride away with loads of things to do including a free outdoor cinema in the summer and fountains to play in. https://www.kingscross.co.uk/see-and-do

Diana memorial fountain in Hyde Park. https://www.royalparks.org.uk/visit/parks/hyde-park/diana-memorial-fountain

Visit markets: Camden Market, Borough Market, and Portobello Road Market are full of unique sights, sounds, and cultures. Exploring them can expose you to new influences and perspectives.

Sky Garden: Sky Garden is located on the 43rd floor of the Walkie Talkie, 20 Fenchurch Street, in the City of London. The exact address is 1 Sky Garden Walk, London EC3M 8AF. It is free, but you have to book tickets in advance.

Queen Elizabeth Park: One train to Stratford from Brondesbury or West Hampstead https://www.queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/

Did you know there is a swimming pool in the sky spanning 2 blocks of flats near Nine Elms Station (Northern Line). You can visit on the way to Battersy Power Station.

Students! Have Your Say: The Big Future Survey

The Children’s Commissioner for England is inviting all children and young people aged 0–18 to take part in The Big Future survey, a national opportunity to share their views on childhood today, their concerns, and their hopes for the future. The survey helps ensure children’s voices are heard at the highest levels, especially as more young people prepare to vote for the first time. We encourage all pupils and families to take part by the deadline of Friday 23 October.

Take part here: www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigfuture
