Primary Schools Partnership
When your child starts their secondary education at Hampstead School they will become part of a caring environment in which older students and staff offer support and friendship. We run a successful buddying programme for Year 7 which allows students to share openly any worries or concerns they may have and be assured that they will be listened to and their views valued and respected.
Moving on to secondary school is an important stage in any child’s life. With this in mind we begin our relationship with our students while they are still at their primary schools. To help ease transition we provide many opportunities for our new students to meet the whole school community and future class mates before they join us.
The transition team at Hampstead School works closely with all feeder primary schools to ensure that we have a full understanding of every child’s needs. In April and May, Year 7 ambassadors return to their old primary schools and hold small group discussions with Year 6 to answer questions about life at Hampstead School. In June, we hold a parents evening for the new Year 6 followed by an Induction Day for the children. This is a chance for them to meet their tutor and tutor group, get to know their way around the school, understand the way that lunch works and enjoy some sample lessons. In September, Year 7 get the chance to go on a residential camping trip which, as well as being great fun, supports the children in developing the skills of teamwork, socialisation and independence.
