Year 7 Basketball

On Tuesday 14th October, our Year 7 basketball team took to the court for their first Camden Shield fixture against UCS,  and what a debut it was! UCS arrived in style, bringing along their Director of Sport and Head Basketball Coach to support them … but it was Hampstead who stole the show (and the ball, repeatedly).

From the very first whistle, our team dominated the game, putting on a masterclass in defence and skill. Quick steals, slick passing, and some top-notch teamwork saw us storm ahead 6–0 after the first quarter. By halftime, we’d added another four points, including a few long-range efforts that had me off of my seat.

UCS came back fighting in the third quarter, clawing back 6 points, but our team kept their composure. Despite some tired legs in the final stretch, Hampstead’s technical brilliance shone through once more and a flurry of smooth lay-ups sealed a well-deserved 14–6 victory!

Please join me in congratulating our Year 7 squad on an outstanding performance, a fantastic start to what promises to be an exciting basketball season in the Camden Shield and Junior NBA.

The GCSE Year 10 students Take the stage at the Donmar Warehouse

Take the Stage gives young people a chance to learn about Donmar productions and work with professional theatre-makers to create their own piece of theatre to share on the Donmar stage.

Yesterday, Thursday 23rd October, Year 10 students spent the morning working with a professional voice coach and a movement director in two practical workshops at Pineapple Dance Studios. In the afternoon the students went to the Donmar Warehouse to watch the production of The Maids. Students will evaluate the production and investigate its themes in order to devise their own play. Students are learning theatre-making skills and developing confidence, both as a performer and an individual.

Hadjer and Layan said: ‘It was an extraordinary production, amazing acting and I like how they use the live feed from their phones was projected on the cyclorama’

The Donmar team thanked Hampstead students for their enthusiastic passion and positive energy throughout the day.

Tools for Success

At Hampstead School, we believe that strong routines are the foundation for success—both in the classroom and beyond. As we look forwards to next half term, we want to take a moment to highlight how simple, consistent habits can help your child thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our Behaviour Priorities: Right Place, Right Time, Right Thing

These three principles guide everything we do:

Right Place – Being where they need to be, whether that’s in class, assembly, or at line up.

Right Time – Arriving promptly, moving quickly between lessons, and respecting and interacting with the rhythm of the school day.

Right Thing – Acting with kindness, focus, and consideration for others.

When students follow these priorities, they build habits that support learning, respect, and personal growth. They also contribute to their own and others’ success.

Routines That Make a Difference

Here are some practical ways your child can set themselves up for success each day:

  • Pack their school bag the night before with all necessary books, equipment, and homework.
  • Lay out their uniform to avoid morning stress and ensure they’re dressed smartly and confidently.
  • Leave home in good time to arrive by 8:35am, ready to start the day with energy and purpose.
  • Keep a copy of their timetable handy—to stay organised and avoid lateness.
  • Act with kindness and consideration, helping to create a positive and inclusive school environment.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

  • We encourage all parents to engage with their children about their learning:
  • Ask about what they’re studying and what they’re enjoying.
  • Help them plan and complete their homework and celebrate their efforts.
  • Talk about future goals—whether that’s college, university, apprenticeships, or careers.
  • Encourage curiosity, resilience, and ambition.

Together, we can help every student become the best version of themselves—not just academically, but as confident, thoughtful young people making a positive impact in the world around them.
