Hampstead School Newsletter

As we come to the end of what has been a short but very full half term, I would like to thank all of our students, parents and carers for your continued support.

There has been a great deal to celebrate. In school, events such as our flagship careers fair have been a real highlight. Beyond the classroom, students have represented the school brilliantly on visits and fixtures, and there has been a huge amount of hard work from our exam cohorts as they complete the final stages of their courses ahead of the summer.

Just as importantly, we have worked together as a community to keep our children safe. The community response to the recent “red versus blue” social media trend was a strong reflection of this shared commitment.

As we head into the Easter break, I wish you all a restful, safe and happy holiday—a chance to reset and recharge ahead of the summer term, but also an important opportunity to lay the foundations for success. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students, in particular, will be working hard at home on their revision programmes over the coming weeks, and I am grateful to families for the support you are providing.

With best wishes to you and your loved ones. I look forward to continuing our work together next term to help every child Think Big, Work Hard and Be Kind.

Parent/Carer Survey - Social media for under-16s

The MP for Hampstead and Highgate, Tulip Siddiq, is conducting a survey to understand the views of parents and carers in local school on the topic of access to social media for under-16s. These views will inform Government policy on this important topic and so it is vital that constituents share their views.

The survey takes just a few minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please contact Tulip directly at tulip.siddiq.mp@parliament.uk

Student Spotlight

First Story Young Writer's Programme celebrations of success!

First Story is our creative writing club. Students have worked together throughout the year with published author Dean Atta to produce an anthology of poetry, and along the way there has been plenty of competitions to enter.

  • Congratulations to Dorothy in Year 7, who has been highly commended by the publishers at Penguin Random House for her entry in the national Six-Word Story competition! She has been enjoying her goodie-bag of prizes. Take a look at all the finalists here: Six Word Story Competition Winners 2025/26
  • Congratulations to Muhsin in Year 11, who has been selected to take part in Young Writer's Residential trip! Each year only a small groups of students who have shown great potential are awarded the opportunity to attend this idyllic writer's retreat in the countryside.
  • And finally, a big congratulations to our writer in residence the fantastic and talented Dean Atta for recently winning the 2026 BAFTA for Best British Short Animation! He even brought in the award to let our students pose with it. Thank you for all your work with us Dean!

Feel Good Friday

Last Friday morning, a moment of kindness unfolded right at our school gates.

As students were arriving for the day, two Year 8 girls approached staff after discovering an injured baby bird on their way to school. Concerned for its welfare, they asked for help, and our reception team assisted them in contacting the RSPCA for advice. They were advised that the best course of action was to take the bird to a local veterinary practice.

With support from staff at the gate, we quickly located a nearby vet in Cricklewood and gave the students permission to take the bird there. The veterinary team kindly agreed to care for the bird and, once it has recovered, release it back into the wild.

We are incredibly proud of the compassion, responsibility, and initiative shown by these students. Their actions are a wonderful reflection of the values we promote as a school community, and a reminder of the positive difference our students can make every day.

Huge congratulations to Reina  and Francis!

This week, they proudly completed their EPQ in Photography — and even more excitingly, they showcased their exceptional work at the Photographers’ Gallery on Sunday. Reina and Francis took part in the Gallery’s EPQ programme in partnership with Hampstead School Sixth Form, and their creativity and dedication truly shone.

Their remarkable projects have already helped them secure unconditional offers to study Architecture and Sports Photography next year — an incredible achievement!

We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see where their talents take them next.
