Hampstead School

Robert Hague
Deputy Head i/c Post 16 Studies

After 14 years in secondary education, I joined Hampstead School in the Summer of 2015, attracted by its inclusive yet academic ethos. I had heard many positive things about the school and was drawn to the challenge of supporting the rich mix of pupils in achieving their very best.

I have found Hampstead School to be a fantastic place to be! Students enjoy first class teaching from dedicated professionals and superb pastoral support. Every faculty area has a dedicated Key Stage 5 co-ordinator helping me look after each and every Sixth Form pupil.

As you will read elsewhere on this website, the school is currently in the process of building new state of the art facilities which begin opening in 2016. Amongst these will be large purpose-built science labs, expansive dedicated music rooms featuring practice rooms and ‘Mac’ rooms, brand new sports and catering facilities and much more besides.

Each school or college is very different and the decision of choosing a Sixth Form for yourself or your daughter or son is a significant one. While our Open Evenings have passed, I would love you to be able to come and experience Hampstead School in full flow. I would be happy to meet you and take you around the school site, visiting some Sixth Form lessons along the way. I feel this is the best way to see if the school is the right choice for you. If you would like to take up this opportunity, please contact .uk or call 020 7794 8133 and ask for Jackie Green.

I look forward to meeting you.

For further details of our faculties and the support on offer, please see the individual faculty areas which follow.

Ben Ackland
Deputy Head of Sixth Form

I began the first five years of my teaching career overseas, as an English teacher and Housemaster at a newly-built Botswana Government boarding school in the Kalahari Desert. My first appointment upon return was to Hampstead School in 2001, where I have been privileged to work ever since.

Hampstead School Sixth Form is a unique environment in which to teach and learn. For our Year 11s, the Sixth Form offers an unrivalled continuity of care and excellence, building on strong relationships both pastoral and academic, and the trust that comes from years of positive experience. Our many external applicants from other schools always point out the ease with which they have settled here, and how quickly they have felt part of the school. Everyone in Year 12 begins their Sixth Form journey together, and Hampstead is a warm and welcoming place.

Another factor that attracts students to Hampstead is the quality of teaching on offer. Our Sixth From tutors, Key Stage 5 coordinators, and subject specialists work together with the Director of Sixth Form and myself to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed at Key Stage 5 and beyond. Experienced staff support students through their courses, as well as guiding them through the application processes for university, apprenticeships and employment.

In addition to their academic programme, students at Hampstead Sixth Form enjoy opportunities to lead: as prefects, or as members of our senior student team led by Head Boy and Girl. Sixth Formers run extra-curricular activities and are actively encouraged to widen their horizons and contribute to their community, through voluntary work, organising fundraising events or as part of our academic coaching team supporting students in the lower school. Outside speakers are regularly invited to address the Sixth Form: this year we have hosted US ambassador Matthew Barzun and enjoyed seminars and workshops on healthy eating on a budget, yoga and mindfulness, gap years and internships, managing finances, volunteering overseas and many more.

You will find Hampstead School Sixth Form is a happy, vibrant place in which to learn and grow; a diverse, respectful environment where great things can be achieved.

Please explore the school website to see details of Sixth Form events, successes and opportunities.
